ProgYes Radio show, Phoenix FM, Halifax

Fascinated with progressive rock and keen to promote the music genre, I approached Howard Priestly, the Phoenix FM Station Manager to consider a progressive rock show at the station, which had not covered the genre before.

Mr Priestly agreed that there was such a gap in their schedule and approved my proposed concept after listening to my demo show. We launched one the UK’s few dedicated independent progressive rock shows in the UK in 2011, broadcasting 32 one-hour shows on Mondays at 10 pm each month to an estimated audience of 60-80,000.

I extensively researched the ‘prog rock’ and closely associated ‘classic rock’ genres to gather and present up-to-date material. I invited and interviewed musicians and producers on the shows and featured and reviewed music of groups such as Genesis, Yes and other famous bands. I also promoted new bands on the show having received countless CDs from new artists.

During the series, I created specialist shows focusing on a particular type of ‘prog rock’, for example jazz rock or classical influenced rock, or particular geographic locations, for example shows about San Fransisco Bay Area music.

I succeeded in launching and covering every type of progressive rock in the ProgYes radio show on Phoenix FM and online, creating a new platform for ‘prog rock’ fans.
